But do we know how does this extraordinary fabric called denim come into existence? Or how did it gain popularity? Go through below interesting facts about your favourite attire.

  •   Denim Derivation: One of our favourite word- denim is derived from the French name- “Serge de Nimes”, a fabric which was originated in Nimes, France during the middle Ages. Later, the name was twisted into Denim and thus came into existence.

  •  The Blue Affair: Why does denim looks great in Blue? And why is it the most preferred colour in denims by people? Jeans was first coloured in indigo as it has the highest ability to hide dirt and dust.

  • Levi Strauss- the Inventors: the original inventor of denims was Levi Strauss who in association with Jacob Davis patented denims in the name of Levi Strauss. May 20, 1873, a date when Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss and co. obtained patent for blue jeans is considered as Jeans’ Birthday. Levi Strauss jeans use an orange thread in each pair as a trademark. Do notice this when you buy a Levi Strauss.

  •  Way of Showing Rebel: In early 50’s jeans, specially blue jeans were banned in every theatre, schools or public places as it was seen as a form of rebel against the conformism whereas today, blue jeans is a symbol of coolness and style. Ever thought what we would have done without jeans?

  •    Skinned and Stretched: Skinned jeans usually worn by girls are not made of pure denim. Denim is mixed with ‘Elastene’, an elastic fabric which brings out the elasticity in jeans as a result of which stretched jeans sick to the skin.

  •  Tough Jeans for Tough Works: In earlier times, Jeans was only worn by a category of hard working labourers and workers who worked in mines, farms, railroads and other such places. The rugged nature of denim and its capacity to bear dust made it suitable and comfortable for these professions.
